Camping Knives Will Make Your Camping Trip 100% Fun

Author: Administrator
I love going camping. Now I'm not going to confess to being one of these folks really rough it and live off of the land. I don't quite go to that extent. But, I do like spending a few nights in a tent and cooking up my meals over a hot camp fire.

Camp fire cooking makes the whole experience in my opinion. I enjoy sitting around the fire and carrying on conversation while cooking. The fun part is coming up with new and unique meals that keep things interesting. You can only eat hot dogs and burgers for so many meals and they tend to get a little old after that.

If you really desire to go the extra mile in cooking up a delicious camp fire meal, you want to ensure that you bring the right tools to do this. You don't have to go overboard, but if you enjoy the whole cooking process including the storage, preparation and the actual cooking of the meal, you will absolutely need to ensure that you have the right gear on hand.

Food storage is important so you'll want to be sure that you have coolers and storage containers. Having freezer bags and tin foil on hand is critical as well.

Make sure you bring a sturdy cutting board because I can attest to the fact that trying to cut up a chicken on the hood of your truck is not a fun experience. It kind of kills the entire process.

Now, I'm a knife guy so I take my camping knives serious. I want to have a good and solid camping knife or two on hand along with a good sharpening steel when I campfire cook. There are a few important things that you will want to look into when choosing your camping knives.

I like to bring two camping knives to serve all of the jobs and duties that I may have when doing my cooking preparation. I like to go with a good four to six inch utility knife for general tasks such as carving up the chicken or slicing fat off of that beef steak that I plan on cooking up on the grill. You can choose a serrated blade and that's fine, but I like the plain blade for the simple fact that they are a lot easier to sharpen.

The other camping knife that I commonly include on my camping trip is the butcher knife. Now, I never intend on field dressing any game or going into that kind of depth while camping, but you never know when you are going to need a blade that is a little tougher than the common utility knife of steak knife.

I always bring steak knives when I go camping. I know I said that you only need two knives to complete your camping knives inventory; maybe I was wrong there. Because if you intend on eating steak, I doubt you will want to turn it into a steak sandwich although that doesn't sound too bad. You may want to select a set of steak knives to include in your camping kit.

That should get you started on your camping trip. These camping knives that I have discussed above will make your trip successful and enjoyable.
